The lack of commitment of nursing staff in front of patient care is generating the increase of adverse events, forgetting also the legal problem before the damage they can cause to the user. Therefore, it is important to investigate job burnout in intensive care and nurses' perception of the loss of professional commitment. The research will be under a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design of descriptive type, whose population will be the nursing personnel who have work experience of at least two years in intensive care areas in hospitals at national level in Ecuador, through a snowball sampling to find the information, it will be generated through a semi-structured interview. On the other hand, the Colaizzi method will be applied to refine the search with MAXQDA programs. 4 categories emerged 1. Factors that determine burnout in nursing professionals in critical areas 2. Impact of burnout on the quality of care provided to patients in critical care services. 3. Consequences faced by nursing staff due to the loss of work commitment 4. Strategies implemented to strengthen nursing professional commitment. From the nursing perception, job burnout in critical units continues to be a persistent problem that affects the physical, emotional and mental health well-being of those who suffer from it, triggering a series of events related to patient safety that negatively affect the quality of care provided, depersonalizing the work and image of the professional. Due to the high emotional burden, it is essential to implement strategies that include mental health programs, continuous training and stress management.
