Abstract
The use of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) provided the necessary theoretical framework for this study to assess the extent to which acceptance of BIM by construction professionals in Manabí Province, Ecuador may be influenced by two key variables: Perceived Usefulness and Attitude toward Use. The primary purpose of the study was to measure how much Perceived Usefulness and Attitude toward Use are related to Behavioral Intentions regarding the acceptance of BIM. A descriptive-correlational quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was used in this study; a total of 100 professionals (83% male, 74% civil engineers) with many years of experience served as the sample population. Data collection was conducted via a structured survey instrument consisting of a set of questions rated with a scale from one to five, where each respondent evaluated their degree of agreement or disagreement with each statement. Four constructs were measured: Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use, Attitude toward Use, and Behavioral Intention. Perceived Usefulness received a mean rating of 3.95, while Attitude toward Use had a mean rating of 3.83; however, Perceived Ease of Use had a mean rating of 3.44, and Behavioral Intention had a mean rating of 3.54. Spearman's rho coefficient was used in correlating the four constructs; it was found that there was a statistically significant (p < .001) positive relationship between Perceived Usefulness and Behavioral Intention (p = .782); and between Attitude toward Use and Behavioral Intention (p = .831).It was concluded that attitudes constitute the strongest predictors of BIM acceptance; however, there still exist numerous contextual constraints that prevent the immediate implementation of BIM. Therefore, recommendations were made for developing practical training programs in order to develop both perceived usefulness and a positive attitude toward BIM.
