EDUCATION AND SUSTAINABILITY OF ICTS

The sustainability of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in education is a crucial issue today. This article analyses three key approaches to the relationship between education and ICT sustainability: their integration in the classroom, the reduction of the digital divide and their role in environmental education. ICTs offer important benefits for education, such as personalised learning and expanded access to resources, but they also present challenges in terms of their environmental impact and equitable accessibility. The digital divide remains a significant barrier, preventing many students from accessing these technologies in a sustainable and equitable manner. ICTs also play a crucial role in promoting environmental education, providing tools that help raise awareness about climate change and sustainability. Despite their benefits, the intensive use of ICTs raises concerns about their ecological impact, such as energy consumption and the production of electronic waste. This article concludes that, while ICTs can contribute to a more inclusive and environmentally conscious education, their implementation must be accompanied by policies that promote the responsible and sustainable use of these technologies.
