CURRICULAR ADAPTATIONS AND THEIR APPLICATION TO STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS IN THE GONZALO ESCOBAR BARCIA EDUCATIONAL UNIT

Abstract

Curricular adaptations represent a fundamental component in the educational process of students. They are applied to those students who present particular educational requirements, whether associated with disabilities or not. These needs can hinder their academic progress and their development in the classroom, which demands immediate attention from educators. In this study, a methodology that combines qualitative and quantitative approaches was used. We sought to understand and describe the relationship between curricular adaptations and special educational needs. Various methods, techniques and instruments were used, involving participants such as students, parents, teachers and administrative staff. Bibliographic, inductive and statistical methods were used to ensure the scientific rigor of the results and the validity of the data. Through observations, interviews and surveys addressed to the different educational actors, it was revealed that the curricular adaptations are applied in the institution, although with limitations due to the scarcity of resources and insufficient knowledge about their implementation, both the administrative staff and the Teachers have limited recognition of the relationship between these accommodations and special educational needs. In addition, it was found that intellectual disability is the most prevalent special educational need in the Gonzalo Escobar Barcia Educational Unit.
