SYSTEM OF INDICATORS FOR THE SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF THE ECONOMIC ACTIVITY OF THE HOTEL SECTOR OF THE CANTON OF MANTA, MANABÍ

This document addresses the implementation of a system of indicators with the purpose of sustainably managing economic activity in the hotel sector of the Manta canton, in the province of Manabí. The study recognizes the need to balance the economic growth derived from tourism with the conservation of the environment and the well-being of the local community. The methodology is based, in the first instance, on a review of the existing literature on the subject of study. On the other hand, a compilation of economic, environmental and social data relevant to the Manta hotel sector is carried out. The selected indicators cover several key areas, including income generated by tourism, hotel occupancy, energy efficiency, waste management, local employment and contributions to the community. These indicators provide a holistic view of sustainability, allowing a full assessment of the economic and environmental impacts of the hotel industry. The results of the study highlight the importance of implementing sustainable practices in the hotel sector to achieve equitable and responsible development. The indicators reveal that while tourism has boosted economic growth, it has also posed challenges in terms of resource use and waste management.
