PUBLIC INVESTMENT AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO THE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT OF PUERTO LÓPEZ, 2016-2020

State investments play a vital role in the development of tourism in the region. By allocating financial resources to tourism infrastructure and projects, it is possible to strengthen the competitiveness of destinations, improve the quality of the tourism experience, and create jobs in the industry. In this context, the purpose of this study is to examine the contribution of public investment to tourism progress in the canton of Puerto López during the period between 2016 and 2020. To carry out this analysis, it was carried out, in the first instance, a review of the existing literature on the subject. A search for relevant studies, reports and documents was carried out in various academic databases, specialized journals and online government portals. On the other hand, an interview was carried out with the mayoress of the Puerto López canton, the policies and strategies of tourist promotion that both the local government and the national government had implemented in the canton were examined. The main results indicate that the tourism initiatives carried out by the Decentralized Autonomous Government (GAD) of the canton generate notable benefits both for the inhabitants and for the general advancement of tourism. Consequently, the importance of promoting investment is highlighted in order to achieve sustainable tourism growth in the canton of Puerto López.
