Se utilizó las tablas de caracterización para la clasificación de los productos de los RSU. Se aplicó un cuestionario a 30 funcionarios de las distintas áreas de la institución. El periodo de caracterización fue de un mes. La cifra total de RSU generados durante este tiempo fue de 59.762 kg mensual entre residuos reciclables y desechos. Los productos estaban compuestos principalmente por el Papel en 19.40 kg y Cartón de 6.90 kg, botellas de plásticos 3.42 kg, botellas de vidrios 3.70 kg, metal en 1.84 kg, plásticos en 1.90 kg y otros desechos en 22.602 kg. Los residuos sólidos no son clasificados adecuadamente por lo que se concluye que es necesario implementar un programa de manejo de residuos sólidos en la institución.</p><p><strong>Palabra clave:</strong> clasificación de los residuos sólidos, cuantificación de los residuos, manejo de residuos sólidos.</p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>The objective of this research was to characterize the waste generated in the Manabí Provincial Electoral Delegation (DPEM) and to quantify of Urban Solid Waste (MSW). Characterization tables were used for the classification of MSW products. A questionnaire was applied to 30 officials from the different areas of the institution. The characterization period was one month. The total figure of MSW generated during this time was 59,762 kg per month between recyclable waste and waste. The products consisted mainly of Paper in 19.40 kg and Cardboard of 6.90 kg, plastic bottles 3.42 kg, glass bottles 3.70 kg, metal in 1.84 kg, plastics in 1.90 kg and other waste in 22,602 kg.
